As a Battalion Chief, I spend a lot of time at the whiteboard working through pre-plans, after-action reviews, and fireground scenarios with crews and officers. The problem is, the fireground is constantly changing—and a static drawing doesn't always show how an incident develops as each company arrives and goes to work.
